The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor II is responsible for leading and optimizing all inbound, outbound, and material management operations within a highly regulated defense aerospace manufacturing environment. This senior-level leadership role ensures full compliance with aerospace quality standards, government contracting requirements, export control regulations, and customer-specific requirements while supporting mission-critical production and delivery schedules.
The Shipping & Receiving Supervisor II provides strategic oversight of warehouse operations, inventory accuracy, logistics performance, material traceability, and workforce development. This position serves as a key liaison between Supply Chain, Production, Quality Assurance, Program Management, and Customer representatives to ensure operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across all logistics functions.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping Operations Leadership
- Lead and oversee all domestic and international shipping activities for defense aerospace components, assemblies, spare parts, and controlled materials.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, military standards, export regulations, and contractual shipping requirements.
- Review, approve, and maintain shipping documentation including packing lists, bills of lading, Certificates of Conformance (CoCs), DD forms, export documentation, and government-required records.
- Coordinate transportation activities with approved carriers, freight forwarders, and government logistics providers.
- Maintain chain-of-custody controls, serialized tracking, and full material traceability throughout the shipping process.
- Monitor and improve on-time delivery performance, shipment accuracy, and logistics efficiency metrics.
- Investigate and resolve shipping discrepancies, customer complaints, and transportation-related issues.
- Develop and implement best practices to improve shipping throughput, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
Receiving Operations Leadership
- Direct all receiving operations involving raw materials, hardware, purchased components, tooling, special process documentation, and customer-furnished property.
- Ensure proper verification of incoming materials against purchase orders, specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Validate material certifications, Certificates of Conformance, test reports, and traceability documentation.
- Partner with Quality Assurance to coordinate receiving inspections and disposition activities.
- Oversee processing and segregation of nonconforming, suspect, or rejected materials.
- Ensure timely and accurate ERP/MRP system transactions for all receiving activities.
- Establish receiving process controls that support audit readiness and inventory accuracy.
Inventory Control & Materials Management
- Provide leadership for inventory control, warehouse management, material handling, kitting, and production support activities.
- Maintain high inventory accuracy through cycle counting programs, physical inventories, reconciliation efforts, and root-cause analysis.
- Ensure proper control of serialized inventory, lot-controlled materials, shelf-life items, hazardous materials, and government-owned assets.
- Support production schedules through effective material staging, kitting, and warehouse replenishment processes.
- Implement and enforce FIFO, material preservation, storage, and handling requirements.
- Optimize warehouse layout, material flow, storage utilization, and inventory management processes.
- Develop inventory performance metrics and corrective action plans to address discrepancies.
Compliance, Regulatory & Quality Oversight
- Ensure full compliance with:
- AS9100 Quality Management System requirements
- ITAR and EAR export control regulations
- DFARS and government contracting requirements
- OSHA safety regulations
- Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) requirements
- Customer-specific quality and contractual requirements
- Maintain audit-ready records, documentation, and retention systems.
- Support internal audits, customer audits, government audits, and regulatory inspections.
- Ensure adherence to material traceability, configuration control, and document control requirements.
- Enforce physical security procedures for controlled defense articles, technical data, and sensitive materials.
- Lead corrective and preventive action initiatives related to logistics and warehouse operations.
Leadership & Team Development
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Shipping, Receiving, Inventory Control, and Warehouse personnel.
- Establish department goals, performance metrics, and accountability standards.
- Assign daily priorities and monitor workload distribution to meet operational objectives.
- Conduct performance evaluations, coaching sessions, disciplinary actions, and employee development planning.
- Drive a culture of safety, quality, compliance, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- Lead workforce planning, staffing, training, and succession planning initiatives.
- Promote Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and 5S methodologies to improve operational performance.
Strategic & Operational Excellence
- Develop departmental KPIs and performance dashboards for inventory accuracy, on-time delivery, receiving efficiency, and warehouse productivity.
- Identify process improvement opportunities and implement cost-reduction initiatives.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Program Management teams to support business objectives.
- Participate in capacity planning, risk mitigation, and strategic logistics initiatives.
- Support new program launches, production ramp-ups, and government contract requirements.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for shipping, receiving, inventory control, and logistics compliance matters.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse operations, inventory control, or logistics within aerospace, defense, aviation, military, or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership or supervisory experience managing warehouse and logistics teams.
- Strong knowledge of aerospace and defense industry quality and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Costpoint, Epicor, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated expertise in inventory control, material traceability, and warehouse management systems.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearances, if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), military, government, or classified programs.
- Advanced knowledge of:
- AS9100
- ITAR/EAR
- DFARS
- NADCAP documentation requirements
- Government property management requirements
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma Green Belt, or equivalent continuous improvement certification.
- Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) shipping certification.
- APICS/ASCM, CPIM, CSCP, or related supply chain certification.
- Experience leading audit preparation and regulatory compliance activities.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Pay range for this role$85,000—$101,000 USD
